about
Bear-Zine Trees is a community project intended to showcase the creative talents of members of the Sandbox. Participants produced one A5 page each about anything to do with the band, which was assembled into a booklet that can be printed out.
We welcomed participants of all skill levels. with the goal simply being to create something that you're proud of, that expresses something you love about the band and its community.

faq
What is a zine? - It's a small booklet, much like a magazine but without any commercial aspects and smaller.
What if I've never made a zine before? - You're still more than welcome to join! Most of us don't have (a lot of) experience and just want to contribute to this community project.
What size should my contribution be? - You will get one page in the zine so the size should be A5! Your piece will be displayed in portrait. If you however wish to work in landscape this is also possible, you will still keep your A5 size but people will just have to turn the zine to look at your art which, speaking from experience, isn't an issue. In pixel sizes your page should be, 1748 × 2480 when working in portrait, which is 14.8 x 21 in cm! Please work in 300dpi.
What kind of contributions are allowed? - Any kind of content is allowed as long as you make it yourself and it’s able to be printed flat onto a sheet of paper. Digital or traditional artwork, collage, writing, poetry, photography is all accepted - get creative!!
Are there any restrictions on what I can contribute? - Strictly no AI use or RPF (real person fanfiction) about the band please.
You're welcome to talk about mental health or how the band and their music/community has helped you, but please avoid anything overly triggering and keep submissions SFW and PG-13!When can I post my piece on my own social media? - Please refrain from posting your final pieces until the zine is out! You're welcome to post WIPs at any time though.
What are the guidelines for physical submissions? - For pieces that are physical (e.g. collage or traditional artwork), the piece should ideally be scanned in. Try and use a scanner if you can; if you don’t own one, schools and unis often let you access theirs, and libraries usually have one you can use. If you don’t have ANY access to a scanner then take a clear, well-lit photo using a phone camera.
Is there any specific theme? -No! Just anything related to Bears in Trees. You can focus on a specific song, shows, the community, the band themselves, whatever comes to mind!
Should I add credit on my piece? - Up to you - you'll be credited on the final page of the zine regardless, but you can choose to put a watermark or signature on the piece itself if you wish. Please avoid the bottom corners as we'll be putting page numbers there.
What if I need to drop out of the project? - As we don't need contributors to fill specific roles, it's completely alright if you need to drop out! Just let one of us know so we don't chase you up when it's nearing the submission deadline.
Are the zines going to be handed out at shows? - You're more than welcome to print zines and take them to shows yourself! The organisers will be handing out zines at shows, but they'll be mini-zines rather than full-size zines to save on paper and costs. So, if you want to be sure you have one or if you want one in a bigger size we'd advise you to print it yourself.
My question isn't here, what now? - We can luckily still answer it! You can ask your question(s) in the #project-questions channel in our discord server), or you can ask (anonymous) questions on our Tumblr!
